My Dear Friends,

Christmas is only a couple of weeks away. Because Christmas falls on a Monday this year, Catholics are under the obligation to attend Mass twice, once for the Sunday Mass obligation and once for the Holy Day of Christmas obligation. There are a few ways to fulfill the obligation.

You can attend Mass on Saturday evening at 5:00pm for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and Sunday evening at 4:00pm or 6:00pm or 11:00pm for Christmas Eve.

You can attend Saturday evening Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Advent at 5:00pm and Monday morning Mass at either 9:00am or 11:00am for Christmas Day.

You can attend Sunday morning Mass of the Fourth Sunday of Advent at 8:00am or 9:30am or 11:30am and Sunday evening Mass for Christmas Eve at 4:00pm or 6:00pm or 11:00pm.

You can attend Mass Sunday morning for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and Monday morning Mass for Christmas.

And you can attend Mass on Christmas Eve 4:00pm or 6:00pm or 11:00pm and again on Christmas day at either 9:00am or 11:00am. This last option fulfills the obligation even though you would attend two Christmas Masses and not the Fourth Sunday of Advent Mass.

From Saturday evening 5:00pm to Monday 11:00am you will have nine opportunities to attend two Masses.

These two Masses, so close together this year for our obligation, are a wonderful way for us to remember the real reason for Christmas; the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
